The Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for severe lightning in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, North-Western and Uva provinces, and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts.

The advisory, issued at noon today (12), will be in effect until 11.00 p.m.

Thundershowers with severe lightning are likely after 1.00 p.m., with temporary localised strong winds.

The public is advised to take precautions to minimise damage from lightning activity.
