‘Gamata Sannivedanaya’ project to accelerate nationwide 4G coverage

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka will accelerate the national project ‘Gamata Sannivedanaya’ to expand 4G broadband services across the country.

Since 2021, 83 communication towers have been constructed under a cost-sharing mechanism with mobile service providers, providing mobile connectivity to underserved areas.

Rising operating costs had slowed tower construction, but falling equipment prices now allow faster expansion.

New guidelines will reimburse service providers either up to Rs. 35 million per tower or 75% of actual construction costs.

The Cabinet, informed by the President as Minister of Digital Economy, has approved the accelerated rollout to deliver benefits to communities more quickly.
