The committee appointed to review and recommend the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) has officially submitted its report to Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara.

Chaired by President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne, the committee was tasked with studying the repeal of the PTA and proposing new legislation that aligns with international human rights standards while addressing modern terrorism challenges.

Minister Nanayakkara reiterated that repealing the PTA is a key policy priority of the government, emphasizing the need for laws that safeguard both national security and fundamental freedoms. 

The committee also sought input from civil society and international stakeholders to ensure a transparent and inclusive reform process.
