The Department of Meteorology’s Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued a heat advisory for seven districts, warning that hot weather conditions are expected in parts of the country today (17).
The advisory, issued at 4 p m yesterday (16), covers Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara and Monaragala.
According to the Department, the Heat Index, which reflects how hot conditions are likely to feel to the human body, could reach a level requiring attention in some areas of these districts during the daytime.
The Centre urged people in the affected areas to remain particularly cautious and follow appropriate health precautions, including drinking sufficient fluids, to minimise the effects of the hot weather.
