The Indian Navy's diesel-electric attack submarine, INS Vagir, embarked on its maiden foreign port call, choosing Colombo as its first destination.
INS Vagir, belonging to the Scorpène class of submarines, was commissioned in January 2023 and docked at Colombo port on Monday, 19 June.
The visit was marked by the presence of the acting Minister of defence, Premitha Bandara Tennakoon on Wednesday, 21 June.
During the visit, the Minister was accorded a detailed and comprehensive briefing on INS Vagir's technical specifications and maritime capabilities.
Furthermore, the Minister had the opportunity to witness firsthand the cutting-edge technology and advanced weaponry housed within the submarine.
After a successful visit filled with productive engagements, the INS Vagir departed the port of Colombo yesterday (22).
The Sri Lanka Navy, in adherence to naval traditions, bid a customary farewell to the Indian submarine.
The visit was aimed at showcasing India's commitment to the SAGAR initiative, which seeks to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region by prioritising the region and creating a climate of trust and openness among neighbouring countries.
