Cyclone Ditwah caused an estimated $4.1 billion in direct physical damage across Sri Lanka, equivalent to about four per cent of gross domestic product, according to a World Bank Group report released on 22 December.
The Global Rapid Post-Disaster Damage Estimation assessment said the late November cyclone affected nearly two million people nationwide.
Infrastructure accounted for the largest share of damage at $1.7 billion, followed by housing at $985 million and agriculture at $814 million.
The Central Province was the worst hit, with Kandy district suffering an estimated $689 million in damage.
