The Department of Meteorology says Northeast monsoon conditions are gradually establishing over Sri Lanka, with showery weather expected to intensify in the Northern, North-Central and Eastern provinces from tonight.
Showers will occur at times in Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces, with fairly heavy rainfall above 50 mm likely in parts of Batticaloa and Ampara.
Other areas may experience showers or thundershowers after 1 p.m., while misty conditions are expected in several provinces during the early morning.
The public is advised to take precautions against strong winds and lightning.
