The Galenbindunuwewa Dutuwewa Paranagama Gamunu United Farmers’ Organization has warned that farmers will launch large-scale protests in Colombo if issues related to fertilizer shortages and falling paddy prices are not addressed urgently.
The organisation noted that farmers are facing difficulties due to limited fertilizer availability and rising prices ranging from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 18,500.
Farmers also stated that paddy prices have dropped to around Rs. 100–105 per kilogram, making it difficult to recover cultivation costs.
They urged the government to provide fertilizer subsidies and take immediate steps to reduce fertilizer prices.
