President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that his administration will not provide political protection to individuals involved in drug trafficking.

He made the remarks at the launch of the Northern Province programme of the national operation ‘Ratama Ekata’.

The President stated that investigations have revealed links between some government officials and drug smuggling networks.

He warned such officials to sever these links or resign from their positions.
