A Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate possible irregularities in coal imports from 2009 onwards conducted an on-site inspection at the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai on the 14th.
The delegation, which included Commission Secretary D. V. Bandulasena and other investigating officers, examined the full coal-to-electricity process at the plant. This included coal unloading operations, storage facilities, sample collection methods, laboratory testing procedures, and the main control room operations.
The Commission was appointed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to determine whether any illegal activities or irregularities occurred in relation to coal imports and electricity generation carried out by the state-owned Lanka Coal Company (Pvt) Ltd and related entities since the start of coal-based power generation in Sri Lanka up to 16 April.
