Two Indian nationals have been arrested by Airport Customs while attempting to smuggle cigarettes and smartphones through Bandaranaike International Airport(BIA).
Customs officers stated that the suspects, aged 22 and 23, tried to bring in goods worth about Rs. 15 million via the Green Channel after arriving from Dubai at 6.00 p.m. on 28 December.
During inspections, officers found 420 cartons containing 84,000 foreign-manufactured cigarette sticks and 25 smartphones concealed in six pieces of luggage.
Further investigations are under way.
