The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has presented its written update on Sri Lanka at the opening of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The update, presented under Item 2 of the Council’s agenda, covers recent developments in Sri Lanka, including human rights, accountability, reconciliation and institutional reform.

It comes amid continued international attention on issues including accountability for alleged human rights violations, enforced disappearances and the protection of civic space.

The 63rd session opened in Geneva on 7 September and will continue until 7 October. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk also delivered an oral update on the global human rights situation at the opening session.
