The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has taken control of the Kuliyapitiya and Udubaddawa Pradeshiya Sabhas, despite the National People’s Power (NPP) holding a majority in both bodies following the 2025 Local Government (LG) Elections.

In Kuliyapitiya, SLPP’s Wijesiri Ekanayake was elected Chairman with support from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), United National Party (UNP), All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), and Sarvajana Balaya. The NPP had won 21 seats, SJB 9, SLPP 6, UNP 4, ACMC 2, and Sarvajana Balaya 1.

Accordingly, in Udubaddawa, SLPP’s Nihal Jayasinghe was elected Chairman, also with cross-party backing. There, the NPP held 9 seats, SJB 6, SLPP 3, and UNP 1.
