The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a project to build living quarters for teachers at 14 selected plantation schools across six provinces.
Currently, 864 schools in tea and rubber estates struggle to attract staff because they are far from main cities.
This has led to a shortage of teachers for O/L and A/L classes and lower exam results for students.
Prime Minister and Minister of Education Harini Amarasuriya proposed the plan to ensure plantation students get a better education and higher-skilled job opportunities.
