The Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to take up today (1 September) petitions challenging the constitutionality of the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which was presented to Parliament by the Government.
A five-member SC bench has been appointed to hear the petitions, with Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena serving as its hHead. The bench also comprises Justices Achala Wengappuli, Arjuna Obeyesekere, Sampath B Abayakoon, and K Gihan H Kulatunga.
The petitions challenge the proposed Constitutional Amendment, which seeks to extend the retirement age of SC and Court of Appeal judges by two years.
