Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees (SLSRFR) President Dinka Peiris has been questioned over several alleged fund transfers which had taken place this year.
In his third year at the helm after being elected in 2020, Peiris is all set to re-run for presidency for another year at the Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled to be held on 13 January.
The Sunday Morning reliably learns that a fixed deposit of Rs. 12 million at the Hatton National Bank (HNB) under the SLSRFR has allegedly been withdrawn and divided into three separate banks during this year.
Accordingly, Rs. 10 million has allegedly been transferred to Pan Asia Bank while Rs. 1 million has been kept at HNB and the remaining Rs. 1 million transferred to NDB Bank.
It was revealed that the decision to transfer the funds had not been approved or discussed within the general membership.
The Sunday Morning also learnt that transactions above Rs. 1 million must be undertaken following approval of the entire membership.
It has also been revealed that due process had allegedly not been followed with regard to obtaining quotations from banks.
The above-mentioned fixed deposits have allegedly been at HNB for more than 10 years.
While attempts by The Sunday Morning Sports to contact SLSRFR President Peiris proved futile, one of the members, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “As members, we had no clue about this transaction and it was not done with our permission.
“It is also believed that the President’s wife is working for Pan Asia Bank, which then becomes a conflict of interest. We have thus sent a letter asking the Executive Committee for an explanation of the whole process.”
