Coast guard saves 11 individuals from drowning in August

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard rescued eleven (11) local and foreign tourists from drowning during lifesaving operations conducted across various coastal regions of the island in the month of August 2026.


During lifesaving operations the Coast Guard lifesavers rescued four (04) foreign nationals and seven (07) local tourists from drowning. The rescued individuals comprised of nationals from the England, Denmark and Bangladesh, aged between 17 and 49 years.


Since, its establishment in 2010, the Coast Guard lifesavers have rescued 2,688 lives, including 1,251 foreign nationals as of 31st August 2026.
