The low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka is expected to gradually move away from the island within the next 48 hours, according to the latest analysis by the Department of Meteorology.
Despite the system moving away, weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled, with showers or thundershowers forecast at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Northern provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts.
The Department warned that heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm is likely in several areas, particularly across the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts.
Isolated showers or thundershowers may also occur in parts of the Uva Province after 1.00 p.m.
