Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has stated that the Cabinet has approved several key policies for Sri Lanka’s proposed education reforms, including a revised national curriculum framework and a student assessment framework for Grades 1 to 11.
Cabinet has also approved a report on establishing an Education Council, while a Rs. 96 billion, five-year project to digitise school education has received policy-level approval.
A unified admissions system allowing students to apply for universities, National Colleges of Education and vocational institutions through a single platform is expected to be piloted in 2028. A pilot programme on students’ online safety and digital well-being is scheduled to begin in November.
