A new Bill has been gazetted to regulate dog registration, rabies vaccination and breeding in Sri Lanka.

Under the proposed law, dogs over six weeks old must be vaccinated against rabies and registered annually with the relevant local authority.

Failure to register a dog could result in a Rs. 2,000 fine, in addition to the registration fee.

The Bill also proposes licensing requirements for commercial dog breeding centres.
