New age limit set for issuance of public transport licences

New age limit set for issuance of public transport licences

09 Jan 2025 | BY Staff Writer

Minister of Transport and Highways Bimal Rathnayake confirmed that public transport licences will be issued to medically fit drivers up to age 65.

Addressing the Parliament today (9), he clarified that individuals aged from 23 to 65 meeting medical criteria can obtain passenger transport licences. Only private vehicle licences will be issued to applicants over the age of 65 years.

The Minister made this statement due to concerns over a misleading advertisement suggesting licences would not be granted to drivers aged 60 or above.
