The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has temporarily suspended issuing number plates for newly registered vehicles due to a shortage, effective 28 April, 2025.

While plates and stickers won’t be provided, owners will receive official registration numbers, which can be manually displayed.

Police have been informed of the temporary arrangement, according to Commissioner General Kamal Amarasinghe.
