Special traffic plan in Colombo for Vietnamese President’s visit

07 May 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Police says it will implement a special traffic management plan within Colombo today (7) and tomorrow (8) in view of the official visit of the President of Vietnam to Sri Lanka.

Traffic restrictions will be in place on the night of 7 May during the arrival motorcade from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to central Colombo. Additional restrictions will occur on the morning and evening of May 8 during official movements to key locations, including the Presidential Secretariat, Colombo Public Library, Parliament, and the President’s House.

According to the Police Media Division, temporary traffic limitations may be imposed on affected roads during these periods to ensure VIP security. Heavy vehicles will be barred from these routes two hours prior to VIP movements, and other vehicles may face restrictions during convoy transit.

Motorists are advised to use designated alternative routes during these times and to cooperate with police instructions to help minimize inconvenience.
