New US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer has held his first official meeting with Deputy Defence Minister Major General (Retd.) Aruna Jayasekara.

The discussions focused on the growing US-Sri Lanka defence partnership, including recent US support through 10 TH-57 helicopters, a fourth US Coast Guard cutter and a US$4 million satellite communications system for Sri Lanka Navy vessels.

The US Embassy stated that the meeting also explored strengthening maritime security, operational readiness and cooperation in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific.
