Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne has endorsed the Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Bill, now enacted as Act No. 14 of 2025.
The law introduces a National Electricity Policy under the National Energy Policy, replaces the “Wholesale Electricity Market” with a “National Electricity Market,” and prioritizes efficiency, affordability, renewable energy, and reduced emissions.
The Bill was passed in Parliament on August 6 by a 96-vote majority after facing Supreme Court (SC) challenges.
