  • To cover financial crimes, money laundering, regulating micro-econ financial institutions

State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe yesterday (7) said that the Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies is to introduce a series of new laws apart from the proposed Anti-Corruption Act, in order to overcome corruption-related vulnerabilities and to promote good governance in the country.

Speaking to The Daily Morning yesterday, Semasinghe said that the Government is focusing on strengthening the prevailing laws while introducing new laws that can make Sri Lanka a well-accepted nation all around the world.

“The Government has understood the importance of making a strong financial legal system in parallel with the economic reforms that are being implemented at the moment. The proposed Anti-Corruption Law is one of the best examples in this regard. The proposed Central Bank Act is another. We hope that all these new laws will strengthen transparency and create a healthy environment for the investors to invest in this country safely,” he said.

He further said that the Ministry has also paid attention to strengthening the laws related to all forms of financial crimes including money laundering, and to regulate microeconomic financial institutions.
