  • Move comes ahead of LPL Season 6

Colombo Kaps recently announced that the franchise will come under the ownership of Witness Sports Alliance LLC, led by Saranyan Palaniswamy and K.C. Shyam Kangayan, ahead of Lanka Premier League (LPL) Season 6.

The new ownership marks an important step in the franchise’s journey as Colombo Kaps prepare to compete in one of Sri Lanka’s leading T20 cricket platforms. Under Witness Sports Alliance, the franchise will focus on building a competitive, commercially viable, and fan-focused team that reflects Colombo’s energy and passion for the game.

As part of their early squad strategy, Colombo Kaps have pre-signed Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis and all-rounder Kamindu Mendis, giving the franchise a strong local foundation ahead of the upcoming season. The Mendis duo brings international experience, match-winning ability, and strong recognition among Sri Lankan cricket fans.

Welcoming the new ownership, LPL Director Samantha Dodanwela said: “Sri Lanka Cricket welcomes Witness Sports Alliance as the new ownership group of Colombo Kaps for LPL Season 6. Colombo is an important cricketing centre, and we are pleased to see committed owners stepping forward to support the continued growth of the league.”

Innovative Production Group (IPG) Global Founder and Chairman Anil Mohan said: “Colombo Kaps add further strength and excitement to the LPL. With committed ownership and strong local players already in place, the franchise is well positioned to build a competitive team and contribute to a season focused on high-quality cricket, fan engagement, and commercial opportunity.”

The new owners stated that their focus would be on building a disciplined and modern franchise that connected with fans, supported Sri Lankan cricket, and created long-term value within the LPL ecosystem.
