Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena announced that during a recent mobile drug screening at Bastian Mawatha Bus Station, 10 out of 56 drivers tested positive for drug use.
Urine tests confirmed substances such as ice, heroin, and cannabis, and those individuals are now scheduled for further legal action.
Addressing the findings, Dr. Gunasena expressed concern over the high number of drivers using drugs, emphasizing the importance of public support and vigilance from bus owners to ensure safe driving.
He urged passengers to report drivers under the influence and noted that bus owners must take responsibility for their employees’ conduct.
