Sri Lanka Police have urged the public not to share misinformation after a viral video falsely claimed an eight-year-old child set a car on fire at a school in Kurunegala.

Police said investigations have found no eyewitness or scientific evidence linking the child to the incident.

The case has been reported to court, while the Government Analyst's Department is conducting forensic examinations to determine the cause of the fire.

Authorities urged the public to await the outcome of the official investigation before drawing conclusions.
