Grama Niladhari officers have withdrawn from disbursing the Rs. 5 million cyclone relief grant with effect from today (19).

The Grama Niladhari Trade Union Alliance stated that the decision was taken due to shortcomings in the circular governing the payment process.

The grant is meant for houses partially damaged by Cyclone Ditwah.

The Alliance stated that the government must ensure a structured and transparent disbursement process.
