Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya stated that a committee will be appointed to formulate a national policy on medical education.

She invited student unions to submit proposals during a meeting at Temple Trees on 27 February with the Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee.

The Prime Minister noted there will be no restrictions on students’ freedom and that discussions will be held with Vice-Chancellors.

Officials from the Health and Education ministries noted delays in internship training are due to accommodation issues, and approval has been sought to allocate five additional hospitals.

Funds have been allocated for new hostel facilities at several universities, while discussions will be held with the Sri Lanka Transport Board over transport issues faced by trainees.
