Former MP and Attorney-at-Law Premnath C. Dolawatta has criticised remarks made by the President in Parliament regarding delays in appointing judges to the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.

In a statement issued through the Sathya Gaveshakayo, Dolawatta said the comments are contrary to the rule of law.

He also said judicial independence depends on the transparency and integrity of the institutional framework governing the judiciary.
