President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with World Bank President Ajay Banga in Colombo today (7), marking the first visit by a World Bank chief to Sri Lanka in nearly two decades.

The two leaders discussed a 3-year partnership focusing on investment, digitalisation, tourism, agriculture, and regional development.

The visit comes at a crucial time as Sri Lanka works to strengthen its economic recovery and build a resilient, private sector-led future.

Banga’s trip follows an invitation extended by Dissanayake shortly after assuming the office last November.

He is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya and other key leaders to explore ways to support Sri Lanka’s economic and social transformation.
