The Government has requested the beneficiaries of the Aswesuma welfare scheme to open bank accounts in order to ensure direct cash transfers without delay.
While the evaluation process of appeals and objections is underway, District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries will assist to expedite the bank account opening process, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe, said in a Tweet.
Meanwhile, all branches of the People’s Bank in the Hambantota district remained open on Saturday (29), to facilitate the opening of bank accounts for the Aswesuma scheme. On Thursday (27), Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena issued directives to finalise the bank account opening process by this weekend and to take immediate action to disburse the payments among the beneficiaries.
