Two police teams have been deployed to investigate the gas cylinder explosion at the National Nephrology Hospital in Polonnaruwa this morning (26).

The blast occurred around 4.00 a.m. in the hospital kitchen, injuring seven people. Three of them are receiving treatment in the ICU at Polonnaruwa General Hospital.

It is suspected that the explosion was caused by a gas leak in the main kitchen. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause.

No patients were injured in the incident. Arrangements have also been made to transfer in-house patients to Polonnaruwa General Hospital.
