A mass grave containing the skeletal remains of at least 88 individuals has been uncovered at the Colombo Port.
The discovery was made in July 2024 during the construction of a new elevated expressway.
Excavations are ongoing under the supervision of Colombo Additional Magistrate Kasun Kanchana Disanayake, with input from senior archaeologist Professor Raj Somadeva.
According to Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara, this is one of 17 mass grave sites that have been recorded in Sri Lanka.
