Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s stance of neutrality and non-alignment amid rising tensions between Iran, the US, and Israel, emphasising that national security remains a top priority.

He highlighted a recent humanitarian rescue of an Iranian vessel by the Sri Lanka Navy, stating the operation was conducted purely to save lives.

The Government granted a one-month visa to the rescued personnel, providing medical care and humanitarian support in line with international laws.

Wijepala also confirmed ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter bombings, including a new probe into possible broader conspiracies.

He noted the recent arrest of former intelligence chief Suresh Sallay, asserting that investigations are being carried out fairly and transparently, with suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty.
