Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that a final decision on a possible electricity tariff revision will be announced on 01 April by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka.
He noted that the government does not intend to increase tariffs, although the Ceylon Electricity Board has proposed a 13% hike.
CPC Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna warned that fuel oil and naphtha stocks used for power generation may run out by around March 25 if a crude oil shipment is delayed.
He stated that diesel will be used as an alternative for nighttime power generation.
A fuel oil shipment is expected on April 12 or 13, while no naphtha shipment has been scheduled.
