Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya, Kumbiyangoda in Matale emerged as the overall champions of the Matale Education Zone Inter-school Netball Championships 2023 concluded at Aluvihare M. V. grounds, Matale on June 15.
The netballers from Sujatha Vidyalaya had the honour of qualifying for the finals of Under 16 and Under 18 age groups and for the semifinals of the Under 20 age category. They went on to bag the Under 16 and Under 18 titles and secured the third place in the Under 20 category which was sufficient
for them to clinch the overall title in this year 2023.
Led by Vihanga Rasadhi, the Under 16 team outplayed Matale International School by 13-6 in the final. Under 18 team led by Bhabvathra Kavindi defeated the Sri Sangamitta girls NS Matale in a tight final by 12-11.
In the Under 20 age group they beat Science College, Matale by 12-3 in the play off for the third place. The team was led by Chathuni Ranvika.
The success in the tournament from this school could be attributed to the untiring effort taken by their coach and PTI Anula Wijetunge who guided and trained the players on to the winning track to achieve this victory under the supervision of the Principal Darshani Ponnamperuma.
