The Irrigation Department stated that water stored in Sri Lanka’s main reservoirs is currently at around 45% of capacity.

Reservoirs managed by the Department are at around 33%, while levels in Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Mannar are around 20%.

The Department stated that existing water reserves are expected to meet remaining Yala cultivation needs, with no major drinking water shortages expected.

Maha cultivation in Ampara and several other irrigation schemes is scheduled to begin from tomorrow (15).
