A search operation conducted by the Navy and the Police Special Task Force (STF) has led to the arrest of a suspect with around 600,000 capsules of a prescription drug, commonly abused for intoxication, which were being transferred for sale.
The coordinated operation, which also resulted in the seizure of a lorry used to peddle the drugs, was mounted in the Borella area on Wednesday (9), the Navy said. This was based on information received by the Naval intelligence. After having searched a suspicious lorry in the Borella area, the stock of prescription drugs was recovered from the possession of the suspect in the vehicle.
Accordingly, the suspect together with the drugs and the lorry were taken into custody, the Navy said. The suspect was identified as a resident of Mannar, aged 44. The suspect, along with the capsules and the lorry, was handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau, Colombo.
