The Department of Meteorology has predicted heavy rainfall above 100 mm in parts of the Eastern and Uva provinces, and in Polonnaruwa, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely in the Northern provinces and Anuradhapura and Kandy districts. 

Showers or thundershowers may occur elsewhere after 1.00 p.m.

The depression in the Bay of Bengal, about 700 km southeast of Pottuvil, is moving west-northwest and may strengthen into a deep depression within 24 hours, increasing showery conditions from tomorrow (08).

The public is advised to take precautions against strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
