India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo today (23), conveying Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s warm wishes and solidarity following Cyclone Ditwah.
Building on the First Responder support under Operation Sagar Bandhu, India announced a $450 million reconstruction package for Sri Lanka.
The aid will focus on restoring roads, railways, and bridges; rebuilding fully and partially damaged houses; supporting health and education sectors; strengthening agriculture to address potential shortages; and enhancing disaster preparedness and response.
Minister Jaishankar emphasized that India stands firmly with Sri Lanka, guided by civilizational ties, the Neighbourhood First policy, and the Vision MAHASAGAR initiative.
