Welcoming the Government's initiative to build an international cricket ground in Jaffna, the main Opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), stressed however that more work needs to be done to develop the North.
SJB Parliamentarian Harshana Rajakaruna stated this during a press briefing held yesterday (4). He said: “Providing a cricket ground alone will not be sufficient to develop the North. A lot of more work is required to do that.”
Rajakaruna however opined that the Government seems to be doing certain things to appease those whom he referred to as the “Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam diaspora”. He added that trying to make that group happy is not what the Government should be doing, but making the Tamil community and the overall citizens of Sri Lanka happy.
Moreover, he reminded that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake levelled allegations of corruption against Sri Lanka Cricket when the President was in the Opposition, although those matters are not being discussed anymore.
