  • A tropical stay at Sun Siyam Pasikudah

Nestled along Sri Lanka’s serene Eastern coastline, Sun Siyam Pasikudah was the escape we didn’t know we desperately needed. For two blissful nights, we left behind the chaos of everyday life and embraced a world of tranquillity, luxury, and some of the best food we’ve ever tasted. This wasn’t just a holiday – it was an unforgettable adventure for the senses.

From the moment we arrived, the resort welcomed us like family. Cold towels and a refreshing drink in hand, we were immediately immersed in its tropical charm. The Garden Pavilion suite was the perfect mix of modern elegance and coastal comfort. The outdoor bathroom, with its rain shower under the open sky, quickly became a favourite feature. Waking up to the sound of the waves just steps away from our terrace? Absolute bliss.

Dining at its finest

The food at Sun Siyam Pasikudah deserves its own love letter. From the first bite to the last, every meal was an experience.

Breakfast was a celebration of freshness. The buffalo curd paired with Sri Lankan treacle was a revelation – rich, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness. We went back for seconds (okay, thirds). The spread included fresh tropical fruits, flaky pastries, and hot local dishes that warmed the soul. It wasn’t just a meal; it was a leisurely start to the day, with the gentle morning sun spilling onto our table.

Lunch on day one was an exploration of the resort’s à la carte menu. With so many options, it was hard to choose, but everything we tried – from the fragrant curries to the freshly grilled seafood – was nothing short of perfection. By the end of the meal, I was already planning what to order the next day.

Speaking of day two, we went all out and indulged in the Kalkudah crab curry for lunch. The dish was fiery and bold, packed with the flavours of the sea, complemented perfectly by fluffy garlic rice and a colourful array of vegetable curries. The staff’s attention to detail made it even more memorable, ensuring every element was served fresh and piping hot. Our taste buds are still thanking us.

Dinners at Sun Siyam Pasikudah were on another level altogether. On our first night, we dined under the stars by a cosy campfire on the beach. The ocean breeze, the sound of waves, and the glow of the fire created a magical setting. The highlight of the BBQ buffet was the lamb chops – perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy. For dessert, the cappuccino crème brûlée stole the show with its velvety texture and a surprising hint of coffee that lingered just enough to tempt a second serving.

Night two took us to the resort’s intimate wine cellar, an experience that felt like stepping into a private culinary haven. Surrounded by world-class vintages, we opted for the seafood platter, and it did not disappoint. Lobster, prawns, and fish, all freshly caught and expertly prepared, were paired with rustic potatoes and delicate seasonings that let the natural flavours shine. It wasn’t just dinner; it was a feast, an experience, and a memory all rolled into one.

Relaxation and rejuvenation

The food wasn’t the only indulgence during our stay; so was the most relaxing full-body massage on our first evening. The spa’s serene atmosphere and the therapist’s expert touch melted away every bit of tension. Afterward, we sprawled in hammocks, watching the sky paint itself in hues of orange and pink as the sun dipped below the horizon. With drinks in hand, it was the perfect end to the day.

The infinity pool was another favourite spot, with its breathtaking view of the beach stretching endlessly into the horizon. We spent hours lounging, sipping on refreshing drinks, and letting the sun warm our skin. It was pure relaxation – no deadlines, no stress, just the sound of the ocean and the occasional laugh as we tried to decide who had the better tan.

Adventure awaits

Of course, no trip to Pasikuda would be complete without exploring its natural beauty. The calm, shallow waters were perfect for snorkelling. A few metres in, we discovered a large reef teeming with colourful fish. The corals may not have been as vivid, but the variety of marine life was mesmerising.

On the second morning, we visited a nearby fishing village, a humbling and heartwarming experience. The locals’ stories of life by the sea gave us a deeper appreciation for the region and its people. Their smiles, their generosity, and their love for their home were as refreshing as the cool sea breeze.

A personal touch

What truly sets Sun Siyam Pasikudah apart is the attention to detail and the sense of intimacy. With only 34 suites, the resort never felt crowded. The staff anticipated our every need, from setting up private beachside dinners to arranging bikes for a quick ride around the property.

Every moment was tailored to ensure we felt special, from the warm greetings to the personalised service. Whether it was a recommendation for the perfect beverage or the thoughtful surprise of an extra dessert plate because they “thought we might like it”, it’s these little touches that made all the difference.

Leaving Sun Siyam Pasikudah was harder than we imagined. The resort isn’t just a destination – it’s a sanctuary, a place where time slows down, and every moment is savoured. From the luxurious suite to the unforgettable meals, from the spa’s serenity to the adventures in the ocean, every experience felt like it was crafted just for us.

For anyone looking to escape the ordinary and immerse themselves in a world of luxury, relaxation, and culinary delight, Sun Siyam Pasikudah is the perfect getaway. Our two nights here may have been fleeting, but the memories will stay with us forever. This is more than a resort – it’s a slice of paradise, and we can’t wait to return.
