The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued an arrest warrant for former Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage in connection with the alleged importation of a substandard batch of fertiliser in 2021.

The move follows an ongoing investigation into the controversial import, which raised public concern over the safety and quality of agricultural inputs during Aluthgamage’s tenure.

Authorities allege that the fertiliser consignment failed to meet required standards, potentially endangering crops and livelihoods. 

Aluthgamage has yet to respond publicly to the court’s action.
