The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for severe lightning in the Uva and Eastern provinces, and Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Polonnaruwa districts.

The advisory is in effect until 11.30 p.m. today (19).

Thundershowers with severe lightning and temporary strong winds are possible in several areas.

The public has been advised to take precautions against lightning activity.
