The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has warned the public not to respond to fraudulent messages requesting personal information under the guise of providing relief to those affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
The ministry said misleading messages are being circulated on WhatsApp, Facebook and other platforms, falsely claiming to coordinate assistance.
It stressed that all official data collection for post-disaster relief is carried out only through District and Divisional Secretariats, supported by field officers and Grama Niladhari officers.
The ministry said legal action will be taken against individuals involved in scams targeting affected communities.
