The Election Commission of Sri Lanka (EC) says Provincial Council elections can be held once Parliament enacts the required legal provisions.

This follows recommendations from a Parliamentary Select Committee reviewing the electoral system.

The Attorney General’s Department has submitted observations on legal barriers and proposed measures.

The discussion was held in Parliament under Minister Vijitha Herath, with the Election Commission presenting its position.
