Govt. dismisses fuel shortage rumours amid middle east tensions

17 Jun 2025 | BY Staff Writer

Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has urged the public not to be misled by false claims on social media suggesting an imminent fuel shortage due to the Iran-Israel conflict.

He stated that Sri Lanka currently has enough fuel reserves to last at least two and a half months and that there is no cause for alarm.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Energy echoed this assurance, dismissing rumours of a fuel crisis as misinformation. The Ministry confirmed that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) holds sufficient stocks and that future shipments are secured.

Both the Ministry and the Minister have called on the public to refrain from panic and rely on verified information from official sources.
